Sauble Beach

Summer in the city is usually hot and steamy, so why not hit the beach and enjoy some of (Ontario’s) west coast magic. Sauble beach sits about 230 km North-West of Toronto, an easy drive for even a first generation Nissan Leaf. Ive done this trip many times in both the 2015 and the 2018 Nissan Leaf. Charging is available in Orangeville (several L2 stations), and an Ivy L3 station in Owen sound. While not necessary for the 2018 Leaf, we usually charge in Orangeville as the kids want to have dinner at about that time anyways.

Going to Sauble Beach is mostly done on 80 km/hr secondary roads, especially if you take Hwy 50 through Bolton.

Orangeville has many attractions that can easily entertain you during a charge stop. The kids were particularly fond of lotsOfun (see https://lotsofun.ca/) which would keep them quite occupied during even a lengthy 3 hour charge-stop which we did once for our 2015 Nissan Leaf. There is also a movie theater, and lots of shopping/restaurants. If exercise is your thing, why not go for a paddle at Island lake conservation area, there is even a charger onsite, talk about fully charged.

We were able to charge from a wall outlet at the cottage we were staying at. A wall outlet will charge your EV just fine, although slowly. But no matter, we easily walked to the beach and enjoyed Ontario’s west coast. The kids had a lot of fun playing in the waves as we did get a stiff westerly one day, arguably more fun than when the wind was down. The leaf has ample baggage space, so we brought along some paddle boards for some beach fun.

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend getaway, going back, there is a charger in Flesherton, which we used, along with Orangeville to both recharge ourselves and the car.
