About 120 km North-West of Toronto sits Elora Gorge conservation area. During the summer, they offer tubing through the gorge, along the Grand River. What a fine way to get out of the house and enjoy nature in an active way. There is a campground at the conservation area if you prefer to stay overnight, but it is a short drive to home, so that is what we did, after studying some “string-theory” at a nearby yarn-store in Fergus ON.

The 120 km distance can be covered in even a 2015 Nissan Leaf, although I took my 2018 Nissan Leaf on this trip. Charging is available in many locations, although for us, we have grown fond of the Flo charger in Milton thanks to the Mary-Browns chicken outlet nearby. We also wanted to do some shopping and I found a nearby Flo charger in Fergus. There is charging available near Elora Gorge in Elora, where you could walk into the park and do your tubing while your car charges. Alternatively, Elora gorge has several electric campsites you could reserve a 30 A TT-30 campsite for the day, allowing you to add perhaps 10-20 kWh of charge while tubing, not bad.

We went with the tube rentals at Elora Gorge, that way we need to lug our own. Advance reservations are recommended, as they do sell out on busy summer weekend days (source). Plus you might want to book an electric campsite to charge your EV while tubing, or stay for the night to unwind further.
