Snow Valley

Just north of Barrie is a small ski-resort, perfect for beginners. But we still go, even with teenagers in the house, mostly its because of the sno-nuts (mini freshly made doughnuts), a fun filled attitude and a good lunch. What is not to like. Plus its only 130 km from Toronto. Why not stay overnight in Barrie and try some of the other resorts in the area (see this post).

Barrie is about 100 km North of Toronto along Hwy 400. Yonge street, which runs parallel to the 400, is a handy option in case you need to stretch your EV’s range a wee bit. We used Yonge a fair bit in our 2015 Nissan Leaf, as we could make it to Barrie without charging that way. With the 2018 Leaf we usually take the 400 as its quicker, and its a short run so even with the Ski-racks on the car, there is ample range. We usually charge in Barrie, the Petro-Canada has two cabinets with Chademo or CCS. There are also a number of J-1772 plugs around town, including the Collier parkade, the waterfront and the Best Western hotel.

Snow valley offers a range of skiing runs, mostly tilted towards beginner skiers, but the advanced skier can certainly find plenty to enjoy. Plus they have a dog friendly snow shoeing trail that you can take the dog on while the kids ski. After a fun-filled day, we went back to Barrie to charge up the car and ourselves before the drive home.
