Dagmar Ski Trip

While Mount Tremblant offers fantastic skiing, they are a little far from my corner of Toronto for a day trip. Never fear, Dagmar ski resort on Lakeridge road near Uxbridge offers great beginner skiing, good food and you can get there in an hour or so. A fine way to convert an otherwise boring Sunday into an adventure. Best of all, I have done this trip in the 2015 Nissan Leaf without having to charge, despite it being a 120 km round trip.

When operating near the limit of an EV’s range, going sow helps maximize how far your EV can go. For that reason, we stuck mostly to local roads setting google maps “route-options” to avoid highways is a good start, and after some tweaking, I had a 60km one way route from my home to Dagmar. Also, I knew of a few chargers in Pickering near Hwy 4 and Brock road I could use if I needed to, a quick look on plugshare showed that a Canadian tire Flo station on Brock road and Hwy 401 that was working.

Getting to Dagmar on local roads helps conserve range.

While it did take longer than the suggested hwy route (60 min vs 45 min), taking the slower road got me to Dagmar with a little more than half the battery pack remaining. Its a slight uphill to get there, so I was not too worried, and sure enough I got home with about 25 % charge remaining or 3/12 bars on the 2015 Leaf. Not bad after what the 2015 Leaf’s computer said was a 134 km trip.

The skiing was excellent, as was the food. In non-pandemic times, Dagmar has a very roomy chalet with plenty of indoor seating. The hill is small, but fun, and being close to the city, it is perfect for those week-end days where you don’t quite have enough time to justify the 2-3 hour one way haul to get to a larger Ski-hill.
