Grundy Lake

We return to Grundy lake for a lovely weekend of (mostly) emission free camping. Located about 350 km North of Toronto, its about the right distance for a weekend trip. The nearby Grundy supply depot, conveniently delivers a Canoe (or any other paddle-craft you may desire) right to your campsite. The kids had a lot of fun paddling around the lake, as did we all. An electric campsite provides ample charge for your EV while you recharge yourself.

I did this trip in my 2018 Nissan Leaf. A pair of Ivy stations in Port Severn provided a mid-way charge. There was a problem on the way to Grundy lake with the Ivy stations, but I got enough charge to make Parry sound, which has ample charging from at least three networks (Flo, Petro-Canada and Ivy). On the way back, I had no issue with the Ivy stations (perhaps because I updated my Ivy App). As usual, by the time we had all eaten, used the bathroom, and I had caved in to a few retail therapy purchases demanded by the kids, the car had ample charge to make it home.

We did visit Grundy lake previously on a tour of the Georgian Bay in our 2015 Nissan Leaf (see this post). It is an awesome park, and strikes just the right balance between easy to get to, yet far enough so that it does not feel crowded. We stayed in the Hemlock campground, which has ample electrical site’s. This allowed us to charge the car from the RV TT-30A plug, at about 3 kW, charging took us about 12 hours. Another plus of the electrical site is ability to run a tent heater. Which was handy as we were early in the season and it did get a little chilly at night.

After a relaxing long weekend, we headed back to the city. Traffic on the 400 got nasty around Barrie, as it often does on long weekends. So we switched to local streets which got us there probably faster than the clogged 400 would have. We will surely be back as Grundy lake is a wonderful park.
