Kingston

About 250 km east of Toronto along Hwy 401 you will find a city rich in history. Fort Henry offers any history buff such as my son, a view into life in the late 1800’s as Canada was being born. Getting there in my 2018 Nissan Leaf was easy as there is ample charging along Hwy 401, and our hotel also offered EV charging. Plus our hotel had a nice water park which the kids enjoyed, with a decent hot tub for the grownups.

We have done a couple of weekend trips to Kingston over the years, both in the 2015 Nissan Leaf and also in the 2018 Leaf. Usually we charge at the Big apple (bring your Tesla to J-1772 adapter), as its just too tasty not to stop. Plus the kids had a lot of fun with the petting zoo, mini-golf and countless other activities. Usually we also stop in Bellville at the Flo DC fast charging station there. The 2015 Leaf also needed a stop in Clarington, as there was a Tim Hortons nearby and the kids were hungry. Of note, Hwy 2 is a great choice if you need to stretch your electrons, as it allows for 70-80 km/hr speeds, much slower than the parallel 401.

In addition to Fort Henry, we did a St. Lawrence cruise which departed from Gananoque a short drive east of Kingston. There I made the mistake of ordering a “ceasar” expecting a salad, but getting a lovely drink instead, my wife wound up driving the rest of that day, as the “salad” was much more potent than expected.

We had a lot of fun, Parks Canada has been busy installing chargers at many of our national treasures. Why not charge up a wee bit in Trenton while seeing a lock in operation? We certainly did and had a very fun filled weekend doing it.
