Get you new EV now

One of the clever bits of the new electric vehicle affordability program (EVAP) here in Canada, is that every year, on January 1st, the rebate drops by another grand. So my dear reader, in a few months time, that dream EV of yours will cost you an extra grand. All the more reason to get going and start shopping, particularly as it may take your dealer a few weeks to complete the EVAP paperwork, and you do not want to miss that January 1st 2027 deadline.

The conversation around EVs in Canada is changing. Long gone are the days where it was either the Nissan Leaf or the Mitsubishi I-miEV, which could get you to work and back and little else. Either that or fork out close to a 100 k for a Tesla model S. These days, you can get into a brand new Kia EV3, 4 or 5 complete with a heat-pump for those cold Canadian winters (source). In fact there are over a 100 EVs on the official EVAP list (source), starting from less than 30k (source).

Also, US demand seems to be on the rise again, following the removal of the EV tax credit back in the fall of 2025 (source). As Canadians often share vehicles with our US neighbours, this might put further pressure on EV prices in 2027, particularly as charging keeps expanding at a rapid clip (source), gas prices remain high (source) and some states have started their own EV incentives (source and source).

My dear reader, all the more reason to get yourself into that EV, sooner rather than later.
