The Tesla Model 3 is “back”

As the US-Canada tradewar grinds on, the Tesla Model 3 was an early casualty. Indeed, Canada had tarriffs in place for both Chinese and US made EVs (with some exceptions relating to the CUSMA trade agreement). Apparently, Tesla only manufactures the model 3 at their US based, or Chinese factories (source). Both of which were until recently tarriffed by the Canadian government. With the recent thawing in Canada-China relations, seems new Tesla Model 3 can now enter Canada via China.

As I perused the Tesla website, I noticed that new Tesla Model 3’s were somehow not as easily obtainable as I recalled. Briefly, while one could “shop-inventory”, ordering new, and enjoying Tesla’s seamless sales process remained somehow elusive. True, one could order a new Tesla Model Y, even some at the impressive price just under the 50k price cap on the Canadian EV affordability program (source).

Indeed, this gap was somewhat strange, given the dominance of the Tesla Model 3 relative to other Tesla models on say autotrader (source). But, as of early May 2026, the Tesla Model 3 is back, at the very nice price of 39k (source). It is worth noting that even at that price, the Tesla Model 3 does not qualify for the EVAP (source, and source), still at 39k, pricing is quite competitive.

What kind of a Tesla Model 3 does one get for said 39k, well the webiste promises “premium”, which apparently means about 80 kWh of battery capacity, no strange “headliner”, and a rear-wheel drive (source). Well now, not a bad deal at all, and rather competitive looking at the competition. What is clear, is that one more option for car shoppers is a great thing, and we congratulate Tesla on making the Tesla Model 3 available once again for Canadian drivers.
