Spring used EV Survey

With the ski-resorts closing, it is time to do our biannual EV survey. The range of used EVs continues to expand, with many 2022’s and 2021’s now entering the used market, often at very attractive prices. Indeed, the EV depreciation problem does have a sunny side, so why not go green, and yes I mean that both in the money sense and as a favour to our wonderful planet.

A word on methodology. We use autotrader.ca mostly as its the one I know, it does filters for both electric cars, price, and location. There are many other sites that help people trade used cars, Clutch, Car gurus and Kajiji to name a few, some of those might work better for you. For each model we find, we need at least three entries in order to make the list, mostly as a way to discourage one offs (say a vehicle that has been driven to the ends of the earth and back several times over, or crash damage). We also limit our geographical search to 100 km away from Toronto. As before we set a hard price limit of $35 000 CAD. Mostly as if your budget is higher, there are a lot of good new options out there, such as the new Nissan Leaf or the Kia EV4 (source and source).

Wow, thats 680 gently used EVs looking for a new home. We have lots of new models: Hyundai Ioniq 5 and 6, Kia EV6, Nissan Aryia pops back in, and welcome Subaru to our used EV survey.

With all that selection, there really is no excuse for not going electric nowadays. The lowest priced EV is a mere $3 000 Fiat 500-e, sure perhaps a two seater is not your thing, but for only a grand or two more, you can move up into a Kia Soul EV, or a first generation Nissan Leaf. All of these will comfortably get you to work and back, honestly, thats the majority of our daily driving. So, if you have not already, go get yourself an EV!
